According to reports, Samsung is developing smartphones that should be released this year. The Tri-Fold Phone and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 are two interesting devices that the tech giant is going to release. Industry expert Ross Young has offered important details about the device's design and display specifications, despite Samsung's lack of an official announcement.

Release Date:

Samsung formally declared at the Galaxy S25 launch event that it is currently working on a tri-fold smartphone. While the device was not presented at the occasion, it is expected to debut in the third quarter of 2025, aligning with the anticipated launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7.

The Tri-Fold phone: What to expect

The Samsung Tri-Fold is expected to have a cover display size comparable to that of the Z Fold 7. When completely opened, the device is projected to provide an impressive 10-inch display. Notably, Young also mentions that the soon-to-be-released Galaxy Z Fold 7 will come with an identical 6.49-inch cover display.

In contrast to Huawei’s Tri-Fold design that bends in an S- or Z-fashion, leaving some of the screens visible, Samsung’s approach to this form factor is said to utilize a G-style folding mechanism. This design means that the display will fold inward from both sides, ensuring that no part of the screen is left exposed. Consequently, we can expect improved durability for the foldable device.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 launch: What to expect

The dimensions of the display resemble those of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, indicating that Samsung is likely shifting away from the slim cover screens found on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and previous versions.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to be the thinnest fold ever with potential design improvements. Although many people may be excited by a thinner model, important features must be sacrificed in the process. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is anticipated to have a thickness of 10.6 mm when folded and 4.9 mm when unfolded, per a report from GSMArena.

This is a significant decrease as compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6's 5.6mm thickness. However, the capabilities of the S Pen may be limited as a result of these design improvements. Although it is still unknown which features would be eliminated, reports indicate that Samsung may eliminate parts of the S Pen's capabilities.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 specifications:

Processor: Snapdragon 8 Elite from Qualcomm

RAM: 12GB

Storage: 1TB, 256GB, and 512GB

Battery: 4400 mAh

Camera configuration: 4MP Under Display, 10MP Telephoto, 10MP Selfie, 100MP Wide-angle, and 12MP Ultra-Wide

Price and Availability:

The price of Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to remain similar to its previous versions, starting at $1,899. One thing’s for sure Samsung Tri-Fold won’t be cheap. The Huawei Mate XT launched at nearly $2,800 in China, so we can expect Samsung’s Tri-Fold to land in a similar price range.

Samsung's upcoming foldable smartphones are set to revolutionize the tech industry. With their innovative designs, advanced features, and improved durability, the Tri-Fold phone and Galaxy Z Fold 7 are expected to be game-changers. While we'll have to wait for the official launch to confirm the details, one thing is certain Samsung is pushing the boundaries of innovation and redefining the future of smartphones.
