Xiaomi has once again shaken up the market with the launch of its new Xiaomi Pad 8, a sleek and powerful device that aims to deliver PC-level performance at an entry-level price point. The Pad 8 combines premium design, high-end hardware, and productivity-focused software to challenge both Android rivals and Apple’s iPad lineup.
A Slim and Modern Design
The Xiaomi Pad 8 is arriving in a body that is just 5.75mm thin and weighing around 485 grams. Although it is lightweight, it includes a large battery and powerful hardware.
A standout feature is its 11.2-inch 3.2K LCD display with a resolution of 3200×2136 pixels. The panel supports a 144Hz adaptive refresh rate, HDR10, and Dolby Vision, ensuring smooth scrolling and immersive visuals whether you’re gaming, streaming, or working. Xiaomi is also offering a special Matte Edition with a nano-etched anti-glare surface, designed to reduce reflections and provide a more paper-like reading experience.
Snapdragon Power Performance
The Pad 8 comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor, which is a high-performance chip designed for demanding workloads. Paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, the tablet is positioned as a serious productivity device rather than just a media-consumption tool.
The Pad 8 offers a large 9,200mAh battery, while 45W fast charging keeps downtime to a minimum. For users who need a balance of portability and power, these features put the Pad 8 in direct competition with mid-range laptops and premium tablets alike. On the other hand, the Pad 8 Pro offers fast charging of up to 67W.
HyperOS 3 Enhances Multitasking
Running on Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3, the Pad 8 introduces software optimizations aimed squarely at productivity. Features like split-screen multitasking, floating windows, and hover previews make it easier to juggle between work apps, entertainment, and browsing.
Audio, Cameras, and Connectivity
The Xiaomi Pad 8 is equipped with a quad-speaker system enhanced by Dolby Atmos, delivering powerful and clear sound for movies, music, and video calls. On the camera side, it sports a 13MP rear sensor and an 8MP front camera, sufficient for video conferencing and casual photography. The Pad 8 Pro comes with a 50MP rear camera and a 32MP front camera.
Connectivity is also future-proof, with support for Wi-Fi 7, USB-C 3.2, and advanced wireless features, ensuring fast data transfer and stable connections.
Pricing and Availability
The most surprising aspect of the Xiaomi Pad 8 is its pricing. The base variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage starts at just ¥2,199 in China, roughly $310 USD, 8GB/256GB varient in $350, $390 for 12GB/256GB. The mate edition comes with roughly $380 for 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. Higher-end configurations go up in price but remain competitive compared to both Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S series and Apple’s iPads.
The Xiaomi Pad 8 was released in Chine but global availability details have not yet been confirmed, but Xiaomi is expected to roll out the Pad 8 to international markets in the coming months. Accessories such as a detachable keyboard and stylus will be sold separately, further enhancing its appeal as a laptop alternative.
The company’s strategy is clear: bring PC-like performance to tablets at budget-friendly prices, eroding the gap between entry-level Android tablets and expensive premium models. If executed well, the Xiaomi Pad 8 could become one of the most disruptive devices in the tablet market this year.
